Holiday in May?
It has its advantages and disadvantages. Do not pay too much attention to the weather forecast and look forward to beautiful days bathed in sunshine or not? I remember May 2022 very well. We had a wedding and although we did not experience or plan our D-Day, I wished for nice weather. The days before the wedding it just rained and rained, sometimes more, sometimes less. The streets were flooded with water and we waded almost knee-deep in puddles. In the end, the wedding date had to be postponed. Due to bad weather, all boat services were cancelled and our officiant was stranded in the capital city.
The sun showed its rays on 22.05. Heavy rains and wind, replaced by extreme heat and many mosquitoes, it was associated with another problem dengue fever, but that's another topic. So I can say that May 2022 was not the best of the year, so I decided to leave the Maldives for May 2023.
And lo and behold... This May was absolutely perfect
It is true that when I left at the beginning of May, was quite windy, so the ocean was not very calm and there was a little rain, but it changed very quickly. The sun shone one poem, the beaches half empty, the ocean like a mirror. Hotel prices are almost half from May to September, so those who went on holiday this May seem to have won the lottery.

Beautiful May weather was not all that could please you...
Schools of manta rays that eat plankton, super visibility under water, all this was topped by an unexpected visit of the Whale Shark twice!
For the first time, our clients were lucky when moving from a place called Dhefahtoshi, where you can snorkel along a beautiful living coral reef, and they saw a Whale Shark. He was very friendly and stayed in one place. The icing on the cake was the fact that they were there alone, just one boat.
The second Whale Shark was spotted just a few days later, near our favorite sandbank Dhinolhu Finolhu, when it came to one fishing boat and as it happens here, everyone immediately let themselves know and a few boats that were nearby came to the spot. Our group was lucky enough to be the first on there.
Who is at least a little interested in the Maldives and the possibilities of trips and the associated discovery of the underwater world knows that the Whale Shark usually occurs in the South of the Ari Atoll, which is about 1.5 hours away by a smaller boat from Ukulhas. In addition, there are always many ships and therefore people. To meet a Whale Shark near our island in the North of Ari Atoll is therefore rather rare.
The answer to the question whether to visit the Maldives in May or overall low season? Yes. The Maldives is a magical place and it is worth visiting it at any time of the year when time or finances allow.
